ABOUT ME
Hi there! I’m Emma Hermanson, a Marketing student at San Diego State University’s Fowler College of Business, graduating in May 2026.
Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, I was put into sports at a very young age and was involved in gymnastics, dance, and tennis simultaneously. However, only one sport stuck with me: tennis. I made varsity my freshman year of high school and became senior captain my senior year. Around that same time, I got my first job at 14 as a Junior Tennis Coach at my hometown tennis club, and I have been working ever since. Coaching taught me more than just how to teach a backhand. It showed me how to communicate, motivate, and understand what drives people. Seeing the impact my passion for the sport has on the kids I coach as they develop their skills truly means the world to me, and it sparked my interest in what influences people’s decisions and keeps them engaged, concepts that translate directly into marketing.
My college journey has not been linear. I started as an undeclared major at the University of California, Irvine, transferred to Las Positas College, and finally transferred to SDSU in Fall 2024. Each transition strengthened my adaptability and resilience and ultimately led me to marketing, a field that blends creativity, psychology, and strategy in a way that truly excites me. At SDSU, as an active member of the American Marketing Association (AMA) and Women in Business, I have grown my marketing knowledge through panels and interactive workshops while expanding my professional network.
Over the past semester, I discovered that I am especially drawn to the strategic side of marketing. I enjoy understanding why campaigns work, how they tap into consumer behavior, and how success is measured through Return on Investment and key performance indicators. As I conclude my college journey, I look forward to continuing to grow and applying strategy, creativity, and communication to create meaningful impact.
